The Triangle of life:

This is what I like to call the triangle of contracting, more commonly know as the triangle of life. These are not my rules I didn't make them up and I don't enforce them . It's simply how things work.
You as a customer are in one corner of the triangle (hopefully the good corner) you must decide which path to follow. You may take any path you like, but you must choose one path. So if you decide you want the job done both "good and fast" it's not going to be cheap. If you decide you want it "good and cheap" it's not going to be fast. Last and, in my opinion, definitely least, if you decide you want it done "cheap and fast" it's not going to be good. These things remain true no matter who you hire or even if you do the job yourself.
An example of this, take "good and fast". If you want top quality workmanship and materials and you come to me at the last minute I will likely have to change my schedule and reorganize around that project. That costs me money so it costs you money.
If on the other hand you say, "good and cheap" You want top quality workmanship and materials but I can do the job when I have a hole in my schedule. Them I'm filling down time and can do the job with less expense.
The final option "fast and cheap" I generally only apply to temporary structures and it speaks for itself.
